Dota 2 Timer: The Roshan Timer Tool for respawn, Aegis and pit
The Roshan Timer Tool tracks the Aegis, the 8–11 minute respawn window and the respawn pit in Dota 2. Game-clock times, sound alerts, Turbo mode and a chat line.

Timer runs on your clock, not the game's. Keep this tab open, beeps play even in the background.

This tool is created with love for Dota 2 and for helping you to play better every day and rank up! Have Fun and Enjoy!

The Roshan Timer Tool
The Roshan Timer Tool tells you when the Aegis runs out, when Roshan can come back, when he is surely back and in which pit he wakes up. One button, big numbers, no math. Axe likes no math.
- Press “Roshan killed” (or the R key) the moment he dies. The ring starts: gold for the Aegis, grey while he is surely dead, red when he might be back.
- Type the game time of the kill, for example 23:14. Now every time is shown on the game clock and the tool tells you the respawn pit.
- Copy the chat line and paste it to your team:
Rosh died 23:14 | Aegis ends 28:14 | Rosh back 31:14-34:14 (Top pit)
Turn on Sound for alerts 30 seconds before the Aegis ends, when it ends, 30 seconds before the window, when the window opens and when Roshan is surely up. Pick beeps or a voice and hit Test sound first. Pressed the button late? Use −10s. Playing Turbo? Switch to Turbo.
Roshan respawn time: 8 to 11 minutes
Roshan comes back 8 to 11 minutes after he dies. The exact second is random and nobody in the game can see it. So for 8 minutes you know he is dead. After that, every second he might be back. After 11 minutes he surely is.
Three minutes of maybe. Axe does not like maybe. Axe likes “he is here, hit him”.
Aegis timer: 5 minutes of second life
Every Roshan kill drops the Aegis of the Immortal. The hero who picks it up has 5 minutes (4 in Turbo). If they die in that time, they come back to life where they fell. If nobody kills them, the Aegis runs out and fully heals them instead.
- The Aegis can not be dropped, sold or shared once picked up.
- The timer starts at pickup, not at the kill. The tool counts from the kill, so pick it up fast. Axe always does.
- 5 minutes is short. Plan the fight before the Aegis runs out, not after.
Which pit is Roshan in? Top by day, bottom by night
Roshan has two pits in the river. Since patch 7.41 he moves to the top pit during the day and to the bottom pit during the night. Day and night switch every 5 minutes, and from 15:00 Roshan walks over every time. He also respawns in the pit that matches the time of day. The minimap only shows the active pit.
While he walks, Roshan knocks back, slams and even throws heroes that stand in his way. Do not stand in his way. Axe learned this the hard way. Twice.
The Day/Night Cycle Timer shows when day and night switch, so you know the pit in advance.
Roshan drops by kill
Roshan gets more generous every time he dies. Pick the kill in the tool and it shows the drops.
On top of the items, the hero who lands the last hit gets 200–290 gold, and every hero on the killing team gets 135 gold. Cheese and the Refresher Shard can be shared or sold for 500 gold by the player who picks them up first. The Banner can be shared but not sold.

Dota 2 shows Roshan's status next to the minimap. Green means he is alive. After a kill it turns red with an 8-minute timer, while he is surely dead. Then it turns yellow with a 3-minute timer, while he might be back.
So why the Roshan Timer Tool? Because the icon does not tell you everything:
- Aegis: the Roshan icon does not show how long the Aegis has left.
- Game clock: the tool turns the kill into exact game times your team can read in chat.
- Pit: it tells you in advance in which pit Roshan wakes up.
- Alerts: sound, even when you look at the lane and not at the minimap.
Small trick: Alt + click the game clock to post the current time in team chat. Axe clicks it with his whole fist.
Axe's Roshan rules
- Write the time down. Every kill, every time. Or press one button here.
- Fight while the Aegis lives. 5 minutes is not long. Use them.
- Check the clock before the window. Day means top pit, night means bottom pit. Put your wards and your team there.
- Mind the roar. When Roshan is hurt, he roars at the team that killed him last. The second Rosh hurts more.
- Look inside. You can not see into a pit from outside, not even with flying vision. Go in or ward in.
Rules are nice. Knowing which of your habits loses games is better. Axe's habit is running in first. He is keeping it.
Fights at Roshan often end with a buyback. The Buyback Calculator tells you how much gold to keep for it.
