The Steam ID to Dota ID Converter Tool

The Steam ID to Dota ID Converter turns whatever you have into every ID you need: your Dota 2 Friend ID, SteamID64, Steam3 and Steam2 ID, plus direct links to your Steam profile and stats sites. Axe once typed his Steam ID by hand. It took three keyboards.

  1. Paste anything. A Friend ID, a 17-digit SteamID64, [U:1:…], STEAM_0:…, a Steam profile link, a custom URL name or a Dotabuff, OpenDota or Stratz player link.
  2. Read the Friend ID. It shows up big, with all other formats below and the math that connects them.
  3. Copy what you need. Every row has a copy button. The page link keeps your ID, so you can bookmark it.

What is a Dota 2 Friend ID?

Every Steam account has one number behind it: the account ID. Dota 2 calls it your Friend ID, Steam calls it your Friend Code, and some tools call it Steam32 ID. It is always the same number.

The long SteamID64 that you see in profile links is just that number plus a fixed offset. That is why the converter can switch between them instantly, without asking anyone.

SteamID64=76561197960265728+Friend ID

One account, four names. Like Axe. Mogul Khan, Axe, the red guy, “please stop”.

Steam ID formats explained

Here is one example account in every format. The converter shows the same list for your account.

FormatExampleWhere you see it
Friend IDaccount ID, Steam32, Friend Code123456789Dota 2, Steam “Add a Friend”, Dotabuff, OpenDota, Stratz
SteamID6417 digits76561198083722517Steam profile links: steamcommunity.com/profiles/…
Steam3 ID[U:1:123456789]Game servers, logs and console output
Steam2 IDlegacySTEAM_0:1:61728394Older games and admin tools (some show STEAM_1)

A custom URL like steamcommunity.com/id/yourname is only a nickname for your profile. It can change, the numbers never do. Paste it anyway, the converter looks it up.

How to find your Dota 2 Friend ID

1. In Steam: your Friend Code

Open Steam, go to Friends → Add a Friend. The number shown as Your Friend Code is your Dota 2 Friend ID.

2. From your Steam profile link

Open your Steam profile, copy the address and paste it into the Steam ID to Dota ID Converter above. Works with /profiles/7656119… links and custom /id/… links.

3. From a stats site

On Dotabuff, OpenDota or Stratz, your profile address ends with your Friend ID, for example /players/123456789.

How to add a friend in Dota 2 with the Friend ID

Dota 2 uses your Steam friends list. To add someone, open Steam, go to Friends → Add a Friend, type their Friend Code (their Dota 2 Friend ID) and send the invite. Once they accept, they show up in Dota 2 and you can invite them to your party.

Friend IDs are the safe way to add someone: names can be copied, numbers can not. Axe added the wrong “Axe” four times. Now Axe uses numbers.

Your Friend ID on Dotabuff, OpenDota and Stratz

Stats sites use the Friend ID in their player links. The converter builds all three links for you. If your profile there looks empty, check that Expose Public Match Data is turned on in your Dota 2 settings. New matches can take a while to appear after you switch it on.

Not sure if yours is on? The Public Match Data Checker asks Valve with one click. Looking for one game? The Match ID Lookup finds it by its number.

FAQ: Axe answers questions

What is my Dota 2 Friend ID?

Your Dota 2 Friend ID is the short number of your Steam account, also called account ID or Steam32 ID. Steam shows the same number as your Friend Code. Paste your Steam profile link into the Steam ID to Dota ID Converter to see it.

Is the Dota 2 Friend ID the same as the Steam ID?

They belong to the same account but look different. The SteamID64 is a 17-digit number that starts with 7656119. The Friend ID is the short version: SteamID64 minus 76561197960265728.

How do I convert a SteamID64 to a Dota 2 Friend ID?

Subtract 76561197960265728 from the SteamID64. For example 76561198083722517 − 76561197960265728 = 123456789. Or paste it into the converter and copy the result.

Is the Steam Friend Code the same as the Dota 2 Friend ID?

Yes. The Friend Code that Steam shows under “Add a Friend” is the same number that Dota 2 and stats sites like Dotabuff, OpenDota and Stratz use.

Can I convert a Steam custom URL?

Yes. Paste a link like steamcommunity.com/id/yourname or just the name. The converter asks Steam which account it belongs to and shows all IDs.

Why does my Dotabuff or OpenDota profile show no matches?

Stats sites can only show your matches if “Expose Public Match Data” is turned on in your Dota 2 settings. New matches can take a while to appear after you turn it on.

Is it safe to share my Friend ID?

Your Friend ID is a public account number, like a username. Sharing it lets people add you and look up public match data. It does not give anyone access to your account.
